Taiko Japanese Restaurant & Bar reviews
67Awesome food and great service. Had their pork gyoza, takoyaki, eel dragon roll and salmon nigiri - couldn't fault any of it. Delicious!
Great atmosphere. A lot of options and mid to high priced so you really have to come back to enjoy a lot of it. Food was amazing, the sake selection was wide and the junmai daiginjo I asked for was chilled and smooth. Will be going back. Eel Roll was so good.
Food ok, service ok. Nothing too great. Nigiri was not good - too cold and rice hard. Chicken teriyaki was good. Sashimi portion great. Yumyum prawn soso. Overall 78/100.
I have been in NZ nearly 7.5 years. This was first time I ate a best sashimi in NZ. Its worth to come again. All foods are great!
It is very hard to find an authentic Japanese food in NZ, so we were very happy to find this place. It wasn’t the best, but tasted authentic and nostalgic for us who used to live in Japan. Tempura was great, chicken katsu jyu was a bit too dry, sashimi was pretty good too. Big portion and reasonably price. Rice can be better (not Japanese rice?)
Good price and super delicious taste. The location is hidden. The only drawback is that some employees are very silent and do not respond to my questions. But it doesn't affect my love for this restaurant. Highly recommended.
Yummy fresh food and generous portion sizes, highly recommended. Really good value lunch sets with lots of choice.
Friendly service and some really good japanese food. Only wish they had more in terms of cocktails or so but i guess that takes away from the authentic vibe. Overall had a great time!
So impressed. Good service. Very authentic japanese food. Good value lunch menu. Fish was amazingly fresh. Tenpura was beautiful.
Lived in japan for 10 years and would 100% recommend this!
Amazing place for lunch! We had the eel and Wagyu set lunch. Absolutely would recommend!
The eel was probably one of the best I've had. Wagyu too. Great portion size.
Tables were a bit sticky. Nothing else to fault.
Amazing food anf great customer service.
Not easy to find on the map. It's located just in front of the train station.
Highly recommended
Small Japanese restaurant in Kingsland - Ordered salmon sashimi, sashimi platter, tempura, chicken katsu and Takowasa (not in pic) ; all were so delicious, very fresh sashimi, thick and juicy katsu, crispy yet so moist tempura, the wasabi sauce in takowasa def hits the spot, not too overpowering! Though, u need to pay extra for extra sauce. Price are reasonable for the portion and the quality you get - highly recommended
If you like Japanese food you won't be disappointed at Taiko. Good quantity and quality food. Nice friendly and helpful staff.
Tried their veg dumplings which were delicious. Their prawn were so well cooked. The chicken was average and tasted slightly rubbery. Wouldn't recommend dessert as it had ice which diluted the taste. However, overall the food was on point. Staff is courteous. I believe their dinner menu is different from lunch menu.
We love this place! The food is awesome (I recommend the kakuni and the tempura) and the staff are lovely. The only downside is that it’s so hard to find parking in Kingsland, we would be driving in circles for 20min before we can actually find a space.
Went the day before lockdown. It's was absolutely stunning. The lunch box deals are massive and delicious! Every time I get the tempura I am pleasantly surprised by the crispness and flavours. Definitely recommend.
Bad experiences with service, wait staff really careless on customer. She delivery food to wrong table and left we wait for food so long until we have to asking for her twice to recheck it. She came to say apologize but her sound really didn't mean what she said out, just feel like she reading the dialogue. More over she is the one who did wrong but she put a blame on chef. She offer 5% off offer for food but we declined.sorry dear many japanese restaurant around auckland, we here because we love your food but to be honest japanese food everywhere are almost same if you delivery bad experiences of service that is you chance of losing customer to your other competitor. And yes we will never go back again.
Nice service, people are so friendly here, its a bit expensive but the food is definitely worth the price!
I came here with friends for dinner! I ordered the special menu Wagyu Beef Sukiyaki Gozen ($49.5). It’s really nice and filling. I finished the entire set by myself but if you go with others. I would recommend you order one of this and one other dish to share. They got in total 3 small dishes and 1 large dish of beef. I was quite full after eating and didn’t finish tofu and udon. In general it’s quite nice. Worth trying!
