The Portland Public House reviews
62Wonderful night, we had gone to watch a young niece playing her debut released and way out of our comfort level and late, I asked for a coffee but the machine was closed, 5 minutes later I was presented with a beautiful perfect flat white. Thank you Portland staff above and beyond. You were incredible on a hugely busy evening.
Love the Portland, my friends and I go all the time! The staff is always lovely and friendly, drinks are fairly priced and live music always brings the best vibes!:)
Grabbed a quick bite, good vibe and energy, if you want a decent burger then come here, they have regular burgers deals on too. About $50 for some burgers, fries and a couple for drinks
PROS
+Asahi and Tiger on tap
+ Excellent Burgers
+Good range of cocktails
+Even extra range of Gin Cocktails
CONS
-Maybe due to it being busy, but wait staff were not too attentive on the tables: after mains and drinks had been finished no staff follow up to see if we wanted more drinks or dessert (which we did)
Used to be at the open mic here every week! Great bunch of characters, staff were always awesome and the atmosphere here REALLY goes! I would really recommend it if I ever got the chance:) :)
Visited there with my friends on Tuesday, the 4th of July. The girls were friendly however the guy seemed annoyed and rushed later in the night. First, we were moved to another table as he had to close up the area that we were seated. Then he came over to us and the table next to us multiple times to remind the time although it wasn’t even 11: 15pm. Noticed him looking at his watch and being impatient. This looked highly unprofessional. I met my friends after ages and looked at the reviews & the closing time before choosing your place. Quite disappointing behaviour from that guy. Things could’ve done differently if you’re in the customer facing hospitality industry.
Called in here after being let down from another venue that was closed am pleased we did the guy on managed to accommodate 10 of us absolutely brilliant service and the food was gorgeous would highly recommend and will def visit again, excellent service he went above and beyond and coped amazingly considering it was very busy and he was the only one on def deserves a pay rise can't praise him enough,
Nice vibe, and it gets crowded quickly. I ordered the beef nachos with cheese and guacamole. Many people ordered burgers, and it looked delicious.
Great little bar style pub in the heart of Kingsland.
Great staff great food and an amazing selection of drinks.
Service is very attentive and warm.
Facilities nice and clean.
Plenty of seating around the venue. Vibe was great
Seems like it should be good, but it just kinda sucks. Tap beers taste old af. Don't get a tap beer.edit: had the tuatara reptilian and it tasted old, or else stored badly. Asked the bar man for a replacement (black dog dogfather) which tasted the same
We had booked elsewhere in Kingsland (group of 10) to find it closed on arrival with no notification however were made very welcome and more than well accommodated at The Portland at the last minute which truly saved the day as many of us had travelled to gather for lunch and beverages. Not only was the service exceptional especially when a few very professional and efficient staff on as it was quiet but they coped faultlessly and as we are also from a hospitality background appreciated the situation. Nevertheless the menu, beverage options and pricing were outstanding, all meals served were fresh, hot and beautifully presented.
Thank you so much for saving the day, we will be back again and will recommend your quality, relaxed and edgy dining establishment to all our friends.
We are from UK visiting our children who live in Auckland. Visited on a Sunday when beers were advertised as 10 dollars. Ordered 2 beers and a wine which was 11 dollars. Total should have been 31 dollars but checking our account later we were charged 37 dollars. We also then ordered 3 burgers on special at 8 dollars each plus a round of drinks and a plate of fries which we calculated at 67 dollars but bill came to 87. Questioned on payment and they had charged 20 dollars each for a beer. They apologies and did a new bill bit we feel that one error is acceptable but 2 is a rip off and dishonest and we wont be returning. One of only 2 places we have felt ripped off on the whole of our 6 weeks in New Zealand this occasion.
A very nice place for live music or to chill out before a match in Eden Park. Highly recommended.
Good service, helpful staff, cosy venue and friendly host introducing novice comedians tonight. Pretty cool vibe and a reminder that comedy always easier for the listener)
Had a reservation for 2 at 5: 30pm on a Saturday booked, someone called the night before and made me cancel it because they were expecting to be busy despite a week prior me being able to book online.
First of all REMOVE " Gluten free options" from your menu. There are no options that are gluten free. You serve chips and steak that are naturally gluten free this is not an option. Secondly why bother pretending to cater to people with dietary requirements when you won't dedicate tools. So no you don't have gluten free options. This is false advertising.
Secondly your mulled wine for $11 tasted like mouth wash, cheap wine, zero spices only flavor was mint and orange What a waste of time and money.
Not a good experience for us tonight. The burgers had a thick layer of butter and not much filling. Super salty chips. Couldn't drink the mulled wine, it was syrupy and way too spiced. The beer and location are good. Obviously a popular place so maybe we just caught them on a bad night but there weren't enough redeeming features for us to go back.
Nice and cosy place where you can enjoy live music. Been there on Tuesdays nights. They make a nice hot toddy, helps to keep ourselves warm and enjoy the cold nights comfortably. Staff is nice and friendly, they personally let the customers know when the bar is closing during midnight. Definitely would go back again to enjoy a beautiful night with cool music.
Unfortunately not a great experience. Friends and I waited at the bar for 30mins waiting for our cocktails that looked like 3 bartenders were confused about who was making them. We kept asking and no one really knew what was going on. The cocktails weren't that great and we left most of it behind as we couldn't drink them. You can get better service and drinks at neighbouring bars
Good place to get burgers and beers before the Blues match. Prices are a good value, and the service is always really nice. Might want to reserve a table, it gets really full before a game.
Easily my favourite place for family friendly yummy affordable dinners, with awesome music.tonight was DJ from Base FM.last Sunday was DJ Anirvan. Tonight 7 adults 2 kids 4 and 7. Ash is an amazing Manager, everyone and everything was awesome
