Umu Pizza reviews
71Authentic wood fired Italian pizza. For those with dairy intolerance, they use a dairy free cheese that has the same texture as dairy cheese. There are also options to suit vegetarians. Delicious pizza!
Great pizza spot with a proper pizza oven. The truffle, gorgonzola and onions pizza is to die for. Recommended!
Delicious food and excellent service. They have a good menu of beers as well. The staff is very friendly and polite. So far, the best pizza we have had in Auckland.
Excellent pizza. I got the number one with mushrooms and pancetta. Can’t stop thinking about how good it was.
In my opinion UMU has the best pizza I have ever had in the world hopefully this does not raise your expectations too high but if it does then I'm sure you will agree, service was excellent and great drink selection to please everyone. Will be back soon can't wait.
Yum! I love the sourdough and unique topping combos here.
1 tip is i would definately dining in, when getting this on uber eats or any delivery (although still yum) i dont think the pizzas travel quite so well
Oh, I love Umu Pizza, gorgeous crust and toppings. A bit pricey for 12-inch pizza, but it’s so worth it and enough to feed two people. And dec t size Caprese salad was delicious with soft, tender and creamy cheese.
Lovely atmosphere with a small cocktail bar corner.
Very conveniently located opposite Kingsland Train station. Pizzas were delicious and the salad too and the chilli margarita!
The sourdough here is lovely. I used to come here with my grandad. However he has since gone to jail for level 3 tax evasion however he remembers you all fondly.
Friendly and helpful staff a great menu and we loved our pizzas. Thanks Detroit and the team
We arrived close to opening on a Saturday lunch and got a fairly frosty greeting by the two staff there. We did ask if they were open and they said yes. They barely spoke to us while we ordered. All this was forgivable if the food was good. We ordered a basic margarita pizza (number 1) and it honesty was not very enjoyable. As another review noted the centre was really soggy even under cooked and the ingredients did not seem quality (the tomato base taste like cheap canned tomatoes). There was three tiny pieces of basil leaf on the whole pizza. The crust was the nicest part. They had noted waiting for the oven to heat up when it arrived explaining why it took so long. The whole experience was pretty uncomfortable and we are unlikely to return. We will give them though the benefit of the doubt on the pizza but it they weren’t ready to open, wait till you are and treat customers like they are invading your space. Not impressed.
We had dinner after a Sunday afternoon Blue game. Two adults and 4 hungry 10 year old boys and we all loved our pizzas. Fast and friendly service. Will definitely be back.
Fairly pricey as far as pizzas go these days, we had the no 1 and the no 7 (super delicious) but had two different staff check in on us which it clear there were some communication issues. Some of the staff seemed to be standing around and milling about quite often. Lovely lady at the front bar but overall wouldn’t actively come back
Have been twice- first time really good!
Second time we went with a friend who is coeliac. I messaged beforehand checking they could do gluten free and they said yes, and she put in the booking notes that she was coeliac when booking. We ordered all gluten free then 15 mins later were told there was flour all over the kitchen space so they couldn’t actually promise gluten free. I know it’s hard to cater for but we would have just gone somewhere else if we had known. The staff were nice it was just a shame as we then had to find somewhere else for our coeliac friend’s birthday dinner on short notice.
Delicious pizza! The base was super soft - if you love sourdough then you will love these! Very fresh and most importantly flavour some. We had the number 3 and it was perfect. I’ve had my fair share of pizzas in Auckland and this is up there for me.
Fast service for a busy night, pizza and drinks came out within 5 minutes. Pizza was delicious, and the base had flavour too?
A new favourite of ours! This is really well done pizza and beer. Nice casual atmosphere, there is a restaurant side and a smaller bar side. Their pizza's are woodfired sourdough. I highly recommend Umu.
Really tasty bases, pizza can come out in about 5 min. Very cute set up. Vegan options, extra $5 for vegan cheese but pretty good vegan cheese so maybe worth it. Would try no cheese in future for a dairy free option
One of the best authentic Italian pizza places in town. Also, love how they draw adorable little hearts on everything:)
I can still taste this wonderful, woodfired pizza dough and crust a week later. I honestly forgot what style of pizza we got because the dough was so fluffy I could eat it every day - dip it in some olive oil and perfections. I really liked this small, limited seating cocktail bar vibe - reservations are highly recommended to ensure you get a table. Pizzas came out super quick too. I was worried they'd be too small to split, but really it was perfect sized.except that having extra to take home wouldn't have been a bad thing at all hehe. Wife particularly loved the buffalo mozzarella in the caprese salad too - very creamy.
