Waitakere Refuse and Recycling Centre

I can sum this place up in an easy sentence.
"Total cluster of extreme
disorganised chaos and to be avoided like the plague"!

We checked the hours for the 30th January and it was shown as being open to 4.30pm. We arrived at 3.55pm to find other vehicles blocked by cones across the entrance. Those drivers said the cones had been placed at 3.45pm. The two female employees were advised of the website hours which met with no satisfactory response. One of the vehicles had a hired trailer attached and we were all turned away. We rang the council line after after a 20 minute wait it was answered. We were told by that person that the hours of opening were until 4.30pm in keeping with the posted information. On checking the website information today the hours of opening have been changed to 3.45pm. There would have been at least ten people affected that we saw. This is not good enough and we expect better service than this.

Good recycling materials if your looking at things for a project, tonnes of items for less than nothing. Was after some paint and we got 2litres for $10. Lots of other things. Well set out and staff are helpful and friendly. Online its says they close 6pm, its actually 4.30pm but best to give them a call on (09) 8365048 as the number on the website goes straight to Auckland council.

Friendly enough staff but the traffic jam here is worse than the North Western mw at rush hour with several nose to tails and a santa parade

Will not allow walk ins to visit dump shop despite pedestrian access being the most safest way to access anywhere.

Friendly staff, good facilities, best prices but be aware of long queues entering and exiting sometimes. Last load 15 minutes before posted closing times.

Turned up 15 mins before closing to be greeted by an abusive office lady wearing hi-vis standing at the front gate telling people to turn around, not nicely though, told everyone we should turn up in time next time (clearly we were there on time as there was a queue and 15 mins to go till shut) also told a guy in front of me with a trailer to f-off, clearly he couldn't move quickly as we were lined up behind him. Won't be back

Dunno what his name is but the Pakeha bloke that was working today was a legend, even offered him some smokes because he was that awesome but he was a non-smoker so he declined. Cheers and have a happy New year everyone

Was really impressed with the organisation and service from the team, a lot of retailers could actually learn a thing or two from them

Had a bag of old clothing to get rid of. No issue getting in but getting out was just a stream of cars - would be way better if you paid going in. Also cloths are considered general trash had hoped for something more eco friendly

Can’t even follow there own safety rules. Worker standing under safety sign with hard hat, fluorescent vest. And his safety jandles. Also waited in line for 1 hour to leave

Extremely fantastic and helpful staff when we went. There were no free car parks at Gate 8 so they came over with a couple of machines and let us dump everything in there whilst they drove it away. Meant we did not need to carry all our stuff over. Legends

What used to take 10 mins at a tip now takes an hour at a transfer station. Even on a weekday. The waiting line is nearly as bad as a McDonald's drive through. Very friendly staff here though.

Unable to get even the basics right. Have been going there for 15 years and an account holder.
Arrived with my tipping trailer and was informed that they are no longer accepting tipping trailers. Told that from now on I have to hand unload 2 tones of rubbish from the trailer. Asked to see the manager. Was told that he was the manager and that he " didn't care " then told that I was going to be tress-passed if i didn't comply.
Serious mismanagement at this facility, no workable health and safety plans. Time that the management was replaced not up to running the facility or sorting out staff or health and safety.
Under staffed, points man sitting in a box made out of old wood, ply and plastic.
Totally unacceptable behaviour from the manager, no customer service and very little under standing of the operation.

Great place, friendly staff, perfect for Sunday outings with the family. 10/10 would dump again.
