Ordered coffee and a cake which I expected to be served together. My cake was delicious but was served 15 -20 minutes ahead of my coffee! A long wait not helped by a 15% surcharge. They were not all that busy and other patrons who arrived well after us received their food and drinks far faster.

Lovely spot and a very unique experience. I have dutch heritage and enjoyed the detail put into this place. Going up the mill is a must. We were lucky to meet the mill operator on the platform he he was friendly and gave us so much more interesting stories.

Porfutgees tasted like scones, if you want good ones go to dutch delights in birkenhead. Do not recommend this place

Surprised to find a windmill at Foxton, then pleased to find a Dutch shop with many imported cheeses on the ground floor of the mill.

The guided tour is well worth doing. They explain how the windmill was made and shows you how it is used to grind flour.
We really enjoyed ourselves here and bought some Dutch biscuits and spices while there.

Fantastic Dutch style windmill. Has Dutch products for sale in the shop, and you can your the windmill, although you do need to be able to climb steep steps to do the tour

What a fantastic undertaking here in NZ. Loved the tour - I had seriously underestimated windmills before! And the Dutch food products range extensive and yum!

De Molen (windmill) is a fully functioning replica of a traditional Dutch windmill built in Foxton in 2002. Climb the stairs halfway to the top for a unique experience. Try playing some traditional Dutch castle games made out of wood and enjoy the view in every direction from the second floor balcony. We were delighted to be inside when the windmill started up and could watch the intricate cogs and pulleys working on several levels. We bought some flour milled there just this week to make our own bread at home. Highly recommended as a place to visit and explore when you’re in Foxton.

Lovely place to learn about the windmill. They are selling homemade flour that they mill themselves, dutch products, and sweets. Nice view from level 2 or 3 (I forgot).
The stairs are steep and need going backwards when going down so you need extra careful especially the kids.

We went up inside the windmill for the first time and even though both my wife and I are Dutch, we have never been inside a windmill like that. We got a great tour and bought stollen for Christmas as well. Highly recommended visiting this place.

Just made a stop next to motorway, you might find some dutch products here, and you could find an interesting Dutch culture exhibition in the museum next door.

What an amazing place, and the Windmill is a working Windmill too.
Loved the 'dutch' games on the various levels, and all the interesting 'build' information dotted around the place.
The view from the top was amazing, and loved that I could buy organic flour from the shop.
Great experience.

Delightful! Where in the world - apart from Nederland - can you see an authentic Dutch windmill? With its sails blowing around in the wind. Built to a 17th century design. With huge wooden cogs 'n wheels. And real millstones that grind the flour. Last time I was there, I bought 4 different kinds. All stone-ground and very healthy! And in their Dutch Deli? Everything from Appelstroop tot Hagelslag, en Nederlandse kaas to rookworst. Heerlijk!

Lots of Dutch products for all Dutchies to get some authentic pindasaus and appelstroop. Make sure to get a broodje frikandel next door!

What a fantastic place to visit. This is an accurate build of an original 17th century Windmill, a modern build of an original classic.
They mill their own flours and have a associated shop with other Dutch classics.
Excellent mechanical exclamations and models of how the Mill works.

Not that well sign posted but just look up and you will see the windmill blades. It is well worth the three minute detour off the main road and with two good cafes nearby it is a good place to stop on a road trip.

Children who are used to everything being automated will be intrigued to see how many levers work most functions in this fully operational flour mill.

You could easily spend an hour here and the $2 entrance fee is great value for money.

You do need to be able to climb three flights of steep stairs and come down backwards for safety, as you would on a boat. The handrails on each side make it easy but it is not suitable for the disabled.

There is a dutch themed shop on the ground floor and printed information about its history which is quite recent.
