De Molen (windmill) Foxton reviews
48Checked the web site and the opening hours and traveled from Hastings specialty to see the windmill inside 2.30pm and you are not allowed up the mill.why not mention on the web site. Very very poor management.
Porfutgees tasted like scones, if you want good ones go to dutch delights in birkenhead. Do not recommend this place
Ordered coffee and a cake which I expected to be served together. My cake was delicious but was served 15 -20 minutes ahead of my coffee! A long wait not helped by a 15% surcharge. They were not all that busy and other patrons who arrived well after us received their food and drinks far faster.
Terrible coffee. Then again can't find a good coffee between Wellington & Auckland
Surprised to find a windmill at Foxton, then pleased to find a Dutch shop with many imported cheeses on the ground floor of the mill.
What a fantastic undertaking here in NZ. Loved the tour - I had seriously underestimated windmills before! And the Dutch food products range extensive and yum!
Just made a stop next to motorway, you might find some dutch products here, and you could find an interesting Dutch culture exhibition in the museum next door.
Good food, great service at the Dutch oven. Nice little shop at the windmill, nice to see his it works as well.
It was truly a great experience to visit de molen.but v visited on a public holiday so can't have the view from inside.will surely visit again.
An excellent travel stop for kids: take a self-guided tour for only $2 per person. Very informative, and a treat to see wooden engineering in working condition. There are four levels to access (the stairs are very narrow and steep; almost ladders), including the balcony outside to see the blades up close. Also many delicious traditional foods available in the shop on the ground floor.
What a fantastic Cafe if driving through Foxton look for the windmill it is off the main drag just take a left turn into a side street sorry i forgot the name, MY BAD. I loved my flat white it was perfectly done.
Nice little shop with nice product. We buy flour and sausage and I am excited to try them. Cute little town
Because we saw a windmill in foxton we spent a homeschool day learning about them.
Then took the girls and paid to go upstairs. Really cool! Plus the Miller was working and he took a lot of extra time to explain each step in the process and show the girls (some was hands on). Hugely appreciated and a great learning experience.
Bottom floor cute Dutch shop
1st floor Dutch games and seating
2nd floor flour storage and bagging
3rd floor grinding stones etc for mill
Amazingly fast service- ordered monday afternoon and arrived tueesday morning. Easy to use website for on-line ordering
A must stop and look through, also great shop inside the windmill.
Has friendly staff that operate the mill.
Oh yeah try a Foxton Fizz drink that are sold in the windmill shop they are the best.
Nice to stop and see this windmill on te wayup north. Went inside and bought some treats from the little store. Fun items I haven't seen anywhere else. Fun to go and see in Foxton
A wonderful choice of Dutch cheese made in Holland along with some made in NZ using Dutch recipes. Olives are beautiful my choice is the chili. You also have Dutch foods, licorice, biscuits and the like so many things to look at not to Mention the wonderful windmill.
Staff lovely and helpful.
I go each time I'm in Foxton but if you are just passing through its worth Stop
Flipping Fantastic Flourmill in Foxton
Totally worth a visit & the climb to the top, the view is Fabulous - go on it is good for you!
The design & build is a real credit to Foxton, a Fantastic piece of ingenuity
See Sandra in the Mill Shop she is the perfect ambassador! Happy Helpful & full of info, recipes & knows her stock!
Enjoy!
THE place to visit in Foxton, other than the nearby beach. The adjacent museum is also amazing. The shop on the ground floor has a good selection of Dutch items. The windmill is active and you can buy its flour (but it'll cost you!), and the floors upstairs are the best part and great for kids.
