Anchor Restaurant & Bar reviews
79Great to sit outside looking over the marina. Good selection of drinks. Very friendly service.
Had the bluff oysters cooked nicely unfortunately the advertised salad was a scattering of musclun lettuce let the meal down sad really doesn't take much to throw a wee salad together for the price such a shame as service and atmosphere spot on
Ordered fish and chips meal and there sizes are way off mine was about half the size of others that ordered the same thing and for $28 not worth it
So the food was great but we froze all night while there, there was heaters but they were no use at all. Staff were even wearing jackets and sweatshirts! Not nice and certainly will not be back at this time of the year! Wasn’t enjoyable
Beautiful spot on the marina.
Nice little nooks for groups.
A popular place to eat for a good variety of food.
Best place in town for a beer in summer, the bar stuff are the best, bar manager is amazing, Keep it up team
A wonderful location on the waterfront near the yachts. Lots of tables inside and nice outside seating area near the boats. Service from the staff was good and it seemed to be running smoothly. Main entrance windows are cluttered with pieces of paper stuck on unneatly with blue tack. Food came out quickly but portions are very small. Not great value for money. Chips with fish and chips were cold. Many other pub lunches available in town with bigger portions. Menu is a bit dated and too complicated. Entrance / exit area on side was cluttered with baby chairs and even a Countdown trolley. Toilets were clean as well as rest of restaurant.
My partner and are visiting for a couple days we went for a meal here the calamari was so undercooked it was slush and my parters steak was riddled with bones was burnt and tough this was not worth $100 wouldn’t recommend eating here
Great views sitting outside. Ordered Fish and Chips. The fish was old and dried and had no flavour. I suspect it had probably been in the freezer for more than a year!
Value is good but service today, Sunday 16 July was woeful. I appreciate they were busy but nearly and hour and a half before we got our meals at lunchtime was a bit long.
They need to buy FRESH FISH, it is not hard to come by in Nelson!
Extremely disappointing.
Had to go and ask them to take order.
Then had to ask where and why its taking so long.
Then to top it off had to ask for dessert menu.
Plus remind them that we order drinks.
Poor service and definitely would not return.
Staff were too busy talking with each other and told me the kitchen was busy.
I wouldn't recommend them
POOR SERVICE EVER! Been waited at the front door for almost 15 mins but no one serve us. A male staff even worst. He saw us for few times but he didn’t ever want to bother us. If your are lack of staff, at least please let us know to wait for a while? But he don’t. What kind of customer service? !
Staff were nice and polite and service was good.had a chicken pasta for lunch and was up all night on the toilet, will never go back after that dodgy meal.this is the 3rd time i have had a bad meal.not a pleasant experience
Have dined there many times in the past. Used to be excellent. Don't know whats happened. We went back this weekend and were very disappointed. Service was slack, meals were well below average and prices high. Probably won't be back.
We went here for dinner and the starter breads were really good but the mains not so much unfortunately. The chicken and fish portions were a bit too small for the price you pay and the chicken was slightly over done. The mains were also bulked out with average tasting mash potatoes too. Overall not bad but for the price, we expected far better.
We had the Anchor seafood platter, it was really good. The two of us were so full Only thing I would say is that quite alot of the things are fried so it is quite oily. The scallops were a nice surprise too! Nice interior and quiet space.
Braving the storm, I decided to take my parents out for lunch as they were on holiday with us and the rubbish weather reduced our options for entertainment.
We were looking for something to warm us up, something tasty and somewhere interesting, and all being seafood fans, we decided on The Anchor.
While the venue was busy, we were quickly seated and immediately asked if we wanted coffee - Great start!
The coffee came and was nice, and got our gears moving ready to order our lunch!
I ordered the Salmon Nicoise Salad, as I had been feeling a little chubby with all of the eating and sharing I've have been doing!
The salmon was served cold, a smoked fillet, whiskey cured, sitting on a bed of fresh salad with potatoes and a poached egg. I really enjoyed this dish, and was surprised at the freshness and quantity of the salad given the season and current cost of lettuce!
My wife had the chowder, as she often does, and this was well received and warmed her up on this cold, wet day.
My mother had the prawn risotto, and while it wasn't something she would normally order, she enjoyed it.
Dad ordered the duck parfait, and this was very tasty although he was eyeing up mum's risotto and helped her finish it!
The restaurant is a great place to visit, you can sit and watch the boats come and go. I have often visited on a nice sunny day and sat with a cold beer and watched the boats. A very relaxing undertaking!
This day was very wet, but the restaurant was warm and dry, a great way to spend the afternoon!
Very disappointing experience for lunch today.
Our Waitresses attitude was appalling!
Slammed returned meal on to our table. So much for hospitality! Very much lacking.
Won’t be back!
No understanding of service and they weren’t busy, it is a service industry is it not!
Poor service, no follow up on drinks, wife asked whether she needed to inform waitstaff about doneness of steak, was informed not. Her steak came out stone cold overcooked, they then microwaved it, destroying the fries. Daughter asked for almond milk in coffee got regular milk. "Groper" fillets were pencil thin.
Pretty average guys
This is a very good local restaurant with no fuss, great meals, and good pricing. Thanks guys for the years of great food in a marvelous setting.
My partner and I visited while down in Nelson in April this year. The food was amazing, service was awesome and sitting right next to the water was beautiful! Will definitely be visiting again next time we're down! Bonus for us - was the sign outside clearly stating they "Welcome Everyone":)
