One of my favorite places to eat in Nelson. It's normally very busy, but the food is so good.

Update, it’s under new ownership and is not as good as it used to be.

A Modern Culinary Haven, Urban Oyster Bar & Eatery

Urban Oyster is a Nelson gem! Exceptional food, diverse beer selection, and a vibrant night-out atmosphere. The modern decor adds to the allure, and the open kitchen lets you witness culinary magic. A must-visit for any Nelson visitor!

An absolute gem of a spot. If you’re ever in Nelson, give it a go. We had the most delightful dinner, the service was great, chefs were friendly, food was absolutely amazing, can’t fault it.

We celebrated getting engaged with a dinner at Urban Oyster Bar and we are SO glad we came here! Sitting at the Chef's pass we got to chat and interact with the staff who were so friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The food was outstanding; we were loving the fresh oysters followed by the prawn toast and xo short ribs and I'm gonna dream about the grilled cabbage for a long time! Finished off with a delish tiramisu and cocktails. Thank you for making our celebration just even better! We'll be back next time we're in Nelson.

Come here for the beer or the oysters but don’t stay for the mains. Food was unremarkable, small portion sizes yet priced at standard sizes, the French waiter was nice, the rest were impersonal. The presentation of the market fish was the most unappealing we’ve seen in NZ.

Amazing food, attentive & efficient staff, and a great vibe is what this restaurant offers, what more do you want when going out for a meal… the wine we drank was also really good.

Calming ambience and lovely Asian style tapas plates. Oysters were amazing and three times the size of Sydney Rock Oysters. We really enjoyed Urban Oyster Bar and Eatery, the service was spot on and the whole place as very chilled after our ferry crossing from North Island and the drive from Picton to our campsite.

Great food and beverages and friendly, helpful staff that pointed us in the right direction for a bit of Saturday night bar hopping afterwards.

Urban Oyster Bar had a great food and wine selection. The stracciatella and nectarine salad was easily my favorite. The flavors of each dish were pleasantly complex and unique.

Great place for dinner! We ordered the fresh oysters (natural and nahm jim sauce), market fish crudo, Vietnamese beef tartare, bbq dark breast taco and lamb wrap! It was all pack full of flavours and freshness

We stumbled across this awesome joint trying to find a restaurant open for dinner on Good Friday and boy it didn’t disappoint. We had oysters to start, fried pork hock and slow cooked beef ribs for mains, and tiramisu to finish. All of which were simply divine. We were lucky enough to score a seat at the bar to watch the chefs in action. Special shout-out to head chef Jed for dishing out stellar food and great service.

Oysters are fresh and delicious, especially the one with a bit green (mint coriander and something else), matches well with the saltwater within the oyster. The roast duck breast taco is also a delight for taste bud, worth a try and the staff is really nice, brings me a cup of hot water with two slices of lemon!

Locals, but haven't been since new ownership (sorry: _
We took some visiting friends, and had booked ahead as they can get really busy. We were seated right away, and menus are on the table. Good choice of starters and mains. As everything is about sharing sizes, we chose a variety of dishes, and surprisingly enjoyed them all - especially the sliders. They have a rotating beer board selection, and the wine by the glass list is better than most in town.
Staff is on it - we had rotating servers (not an issue) that made sure we were taken care of.
Booked in again to take some other friends.

Heard about this place and had to give it a whirl. Glad we did! Really busy inside, but sitting outside in Nelson central was just as good. Always something (or someone) interesting to see. We got 3 tapas type courses and they were amazing. I had never had raw fish before (apart from sushi), and i was a bit skeptical.but it was delicious. The other courses were also outstanding. Service was top notch and friendly. Highly recommend giving this place a crack.

Insanely amazing food, good service, great spot. So so impressed by the food - shared a few plates with a friend in the sun. Hands down best food we ate all holiday!

Wow! We had four dishes. The ceviche (snapper) was amazing, I could’ve eaten three more. The duck tacos were delicious and then that was followed by peri peri market fish and the chicken. Absolutely coming back when we are back in Nelson.
