Urban Oyster Bar & Eatery reviews
65Small plate eateries are everywhere these days, but Matt Bouterey and his team have nailed the genre. A finely judged and varied range of offerings, all extremely tasty. Price is right, too: the plates are surprisingly substantial, so that you need fewer to feel happily full than you might elsewhere. Wine and beer list complements well. Highly recommended.
Awesome meal here this evening. Great service. Delicious food in a relaxed setting. We will definitely recommend to mates. Snapper cerviche was our favorite
Our fave place we went to while in Nelson. Staff were great, cocktails were amazing and the food.omg. Such a vibe!
Fantastic service, great food and a lovely selection of tap beer served in real imperial pints!
Oh man, great service, fantastic location, and the food was delicious. Definitely go again. What a treat.
My friend and I had a good time there. The pork hock was fantastic and the beef rib was nice as well. The cocktail were good. Definitely will go there again!
Really stunning! From service to food, including atmosphere, if you are in Nelson this is a must!
The venue is great, staff are amazing and the food is absolutely flawless. I couldn't speak any higher of this place, arguably the best food I have had in New Zealand hands down. I highly recommend the pork hock and duck breast taco.
Yes!
This place is exceptional. Relaxed yet professional service. Exceptional food and a wine list that to die for.
I will legit travel back to Nelson just to eat here. Bravo.
Went here in orange light one night on our honeymoon, staff are lovely & chatty, and will help with the menu.
What they don't tell you is the cabbage with kimchi butter is not only the best value menu item, but also insanely delicious and perfectly cooked
The pork belly sliders & duck breast tacos were also magnificent, but a bit more on the salty side & not as good value for money.
Had a delicious meal at Urban before lockdown. This place has such a great vibe, music, ambience, service and food. Lots of different sharing platters to choose from. It's another Nelson must try, will leave you coming back for more
Friendly crew and service, Ceviche and Grilled cos although were delicious were bordering on too salty.
Short rib sliders, melt in your mouth short rib, but we felt were a bit plain and needed something sweet or smokey. Duck tacos, were tasty.
Baked meringue dessert was our favourite and disappeared pretty fast.
Tapas sized serves, extremely flavourful dishes, high level of skill shown in the sauces
Indicating professional kitchen with real chefs. Changing menu pending what's fresh Nice touch with a free serve of oven roasted cabbage served with kimichi butter, after a conversation with Chef, craft beers local wines
Always a treat this place. Great food, friendly staff, always informative about different options available. Can't go wrong.
Wow! Let my tastebuds rejoice! Amazing flavour combinations that just POPPED! Friendly staff, great service. Thanks for a very fun night out.
We had dined once three years ago and returned to Nelson especially for this place but was disappointed. The food was salty and somewhat average, disappointed, had something changed?
What changed? I dined here 3 years ago, and it was without question one of the best eateries in New Zealand. Tonight I had the opportunity to visit again from Auckland and the Mana was missing. The Entrée of oysters came, it was overly salty. My initial thoughts were, it's saltwater crustaceans? Then came the market fish of Hapuka. The serving was very off-balance with two worlds colliding between delicate fish and strong chili. The hanger steak was over salted by a country mile and no black pepper to balance the seasoning. I want to emphasize the bill of overly salty Everything is a bad experience at this stage. The "Indian inspired" hot chips, that looks and taste like something from a school market was under cooked and again, overly slated to the degree I still taste it in my mouth.
My experience paying the bill was, this was someone's dream and effort, and that passion has left the building. Surely I won't be going back here again.
Some work colleagues saw us walking past and invited us in. What a surprise! Good company, fantastic menu, attentive staff. Stayed there all afternoon! Would highly recommend to all.
Excellent menu great service and wide range of local wines and craft beers. Well worth a visit.
Very disappointing dining here last night. Great service but food was not at all as menu had described. We felt like food had been thrown on the plate with little interest in providing any quality. If this is the new owner and new chef then I don’t hold much hope for their future.
