Gengys Mongolian BBQ Buffet Restaurant reviews
66 I believe this is now under new management.
My family has been a fan of Gengys since it opened up in Whangarei for about $28/pp and now it's $38/pp, but that's not too bad considering it's all you can eat. I'm also only eating one meal a day, so Gengys has always been first on the list. We haven't been so regular since Covid.
Me and my wife went there 2 weeks ago and were absolutely shocked at the plates, they were all stained and had food or whatever the black thing is on them, this was on every single bowl, even the main dinner plates were covered in oil as if they weren't washed with soap. We weren't the only ones hunting for a clean bowl, I'm surprised it went unnoticed by the staff.
My wife's last meal looked as if the food had been cooked on top of the previous person's meal and had burnt remains mixed into her food, tasted burnt as well.
All new staff there just don't share the same friendly professional manner that we're so used to.
I was reading all the negative feedback a month ago and thought, these must be from people who like to complain, the staff are always super friendly.
Went there yesterday for a small birthday party. We were absolutely shocked! They had hardly any food in the trays and seemed they were under new management? It's not much of a family friendly resteraunt with all the R rated music they were playing, one of which being "barbie tingz" by Nicky Minaj. The place has gone downhill. It's mostly student run with 2 other adults. As soon as we got in, one of the staff had said "we're a bit late now aren't we" yet it was mostly empty and we had made reservations etc. We used to remember gengys as being a family resteraunt with such a great vibe but not anymore. We are really disappointed. We had paid well over $100 for 3 people also. The food wasn't great at all and we felt as though we were being forced out once we had finished eating. Won't be going here again as it's not like it used to be.
Honest opinion this is the most unclean restaurant I've been to in whangarei. The staff are also rude and look lost. The price is good for the amount of food you can eat but even the food isn't great.
Pretty disappointing dining "experience" last night. We haven't been here for a few years and firstly the price has gone up by about $10 per person. We weren't offered drinks on arrival. The flavour sauces for the main meals seemed watered down and despite putting on a few scoops of sauce and garlic, they were tasteless and bland. The place is just tired, floors in the kitchen dirty and Christmas decorations still up from last year. The 2 girls collecting dirty dishes were really nice though. We haven't been in since before Covid and it wasn't clear where to get extra cutlery from so maybe they should put signs up so you don't have to hunt it down because it's behind the main counter. You always feel like they are just waiting for you to finish eating and leave by cleaning around you and closing in on you, and at 8pm on a Saturday night they had the closed sign up and we were 1 of 3 tables left in there. The price is good if you have a big appetite but for the quality, and if you have a small appetite, it's not worth it. We won't be back.
Doesn't even deserve 1 star. Rudest staff ever and the foods were bland and oily. Wouldn't recommend and will never come back.
Must’ve changed owners. Customer service was very good but unfortunately the quality of the food has hit rock bottom. Probably won’t be going there anymore
Had a very high expectation with this place only to be disappointed with everything. Maybe a change of management will do the trick. Will never come back.
One of the staff members was rude on 2 separate occasions (I assume the owner). It is far to hot in there so you cannot even enjoy sitting there and eating your kai. I would not go back there again by choice.
I would give zero stars if I could, horrible customer service from the owner. Treated the birthday woman with disrespect as well as everyone with her.never going there again. I really do not recommend.
The lady behind the counter was really rude, she couldnt accommodate my 4 kids myself and partner. She said she couldnt sit us anywhere every single table and high chair was reserved never happened before the other times we were fine so instead we will go spend our money at elsewhere,
Was a little disappointed food was cold in the cooked food section. Toilet doors in womans toilets didn't lock other toilet with a changing table was off lying down so couldn't get in there to change baby. There also in womans toilet had poo on the wall. Wasn't what I expected there. When trying to talk to staff it was I'll be with you in a minute. Was not impressed at all. This was a favourite place to eat at $32.50 a head now $37.didn't think was worth it this time sori guys.
Went for dinner for xmas work do, service was absolutely awful, servers were rude and lazy. Did was only ok, was only just warm foods in Bay maire. Very disappointed, will definitely not be coming back
Went to Gengys restaurant in Tauranga two months really enjoy the meal we took along acouple of friends that have never be there the said that they would go back. In Tauranga Gengys you waiting for your food to be cook and took it be to your seat But in Whangaeri because of covid you have to go back to your seat and wait for your food to come. My can about in 10 minutes my husband had to wait another 10 minutes for his by that I had finished. Get your act together if Tauranga can let you wait for your food why can't Whangaeri.
Service was non-existent, most of the staff wouldn't even look at us. The food was good but only because we chose the ingredients. Had to wait 20 minutes to pay so we could leave. Not an experience I would have again
No where as good as Rotorua
Who puts onions and carrots in the uncooked meat section? When you can add to bowl in the vegetable section. No nuts and cream in the desert area. No sushi to be seen. Lighting in the place not very good seemed to dark for me. Only 2 people cooking the food mind you the bbq round plate is way smaller than other places been in so seems to take for ever too cook. But cant complain about the price 4 adults only got charged $56 We was all standing there to pay their mistake not ours
Nice atmosphere and good food selection although a little pricey considering that it's self service. Other than that fine.
A fantastic buffet style experience. I always leave feeling absolutely stuffed. Choose your own ingredients and flavours then watch as it's cooked right before your eyes by the awesome friendly staff. There is also a great range of soup, salad and even pancakes and ice cream for dessert.
Great value for money and kinda fun to pick your ingredients and watch it being cooked.there is a large room at the back for groups also, the staff were great too
A real funky place to eat. Love the style of service and when the staff do the whacky things with the knives on the stove top when it's someone's birthday! I love it
Been here a lot for birthday and each time I'm either getting worse at making food or it's just not tasting like the last time I was there. Over priced I think for how much you can eat but it's the flavor that's not worth it for me. Cocktails are over priced for the size and taste.
I really like the atmosphere it's really nice with family. But will have to really want to go back to get me back there.
