Quail Cafe

Was very busy today despite the weather. But coffee and food arrived in good time and we didn't have to wait for long. Great service and the cafe was busy!
Frech toast with berry syrup was divine

We're glad that this cafe survived the events of the cyclone. Nice location. Nice venue, lovely staff but very mixed value for what you get. If you're a strict vegan or vegetarian it's not the best value and the dish (pictured, though not from geostationary orbit) that we had (as pretty and as tasty as it was) was laughably tiny. The profit margin from this dish alone would make even Gordon Ramsay blush. Sad to say we would only go back for a coffee with family or friends only because they like it and want to support it (as we have done in the past). If management even have to ask what was wrong with this size of portion then.

Went there for the first time on a Sunday morning and found it packed, so we had to wait for a table but it was well worth it. Staff were super nice and friendly even though it could very well be a very stressful time and atmosphere, with so many people, but they all stayed very calm and friendly. Food and coffee was great and it's nice, after eating nice food to be able to go for a walk and walk off some of the calories, in the beautiful and fascinating Quarry Gardens right there.

Every time we are up from Tauranga Quail Cafe is a must. A favourite of ours in every way.

Been in town for a while and i finally found my new favorite cafe. Quail just have the vibe im looking for. Bright, fresh and have very cool servers.

50 minutes and still waiting. Owner constantly handling/plating food on nearly every meal with bare hands and touching 'everything else' in between. Quality of food has deteriorated. I know it can be much better.

The Quail is always such a pleasure to visit! The food/Coffee is consistently amazing. Very friendly and accommodating staff. The location is beautiful, nice to walk the quarry gardens! Hands down the best cafe in Whangarei.

Really nice setting, Staff where very attentive. We arrived 20 mins after opening and it was at around 85% full, surprisingly the food came out in reasonable time. I ordered the Turkish eggs and rate it a 8.5/10, it would have been a 9 if the Yoghurt was closer to room temp. The cold yogurt cooled the warm parts of the dish quite quickly.

Garden good cafe food and coffee good. Gender confused she/her from I guess USA or Canada working behind the counter friendly just didn't like me calling the gingerbread man a gingerbread man and was quick to attempt to tell me it's a gingerbread person but to be honest I didn't even notice she had attempted to "correct me" someone else told me

Best French Toast ever! Never been a cafe french toast person but Quail french toast is an exception and is so good!

Hands down the best cafe in Whangarei, I've been coming here for work for over a year and am so surprised I only just found it! It should 100% be listed as the #1 on tripadvisor etc for the region, the food is absolutely amazing, great coffee and above and beyond service. The steezy guy working the front counter went above and beyond and is such an asset!

From the lovely staff to the beautiful serene scene, the entire experience is wonderful. I ordered the French toast and literally stared in awe for a few minutes, not wanting to disrupt the plate. Tasted as divine as it was presented too: ,)

We arrived at the cafe, maybe a half hour after opening and we got caught in a bit of a rush! I can't fault the place for being popular, but just be prepared for a wait to order.

The person taking our order was super helpful with my son's dietary requirements, answering our questions while we tried not to hold up the line any further.

Our coffees were delicious. I didn't catch what beans they use. Good range of alternative milks.

I got the eggs benedict with bacon which came on a brioche bun - nice surprise! Pesto and balsamic drizzles on the outside, excellent choices. Eggs perfectly poached. Bacon not crispy, not too chewy.

My wife got the creamy mushrooms which was a generous portion. Came with some slices of ciabatta to soak up the creamy sauce. She definitely enjoyed it.

Whangarei's hidden gem! I was today years old when I found this place. After 47 years living in the area! What a beautiful cafe and garden's, best coffee in northland, the food is well presented, and the taste is amazing. Friendly welcoming staff and just a great atmosphere.

We started off the day with a delicious breakfast at the restaurant at the Quarry Gardens

They don't have a big breakfast menu, but there are enough options for every taste bud They also have some delicious cabinet food and sweet treats

Even though it was quite busy, the staff were very attentive

With the music and all the people, it does get quite loud, and I struggled to hear people across the table

Parking is a bit of a nightmare. Only one car can go down or up the driveway at any one time. Because it has a bend, there is no way of seeing oncoming cars, so you enter by faith. Unfortunately, when you're met by another vehicle, someone has to reverse all the back and start again. There's also a weird one lane road around the carpark. There are no signs indicating a one way, so people get stuck going every which way

The intention was to walk around the gardens after our breakfast. It's apparently amazing, and requires a koha (donation) entry. It had been raining steadily since last night and the trail starts with an incline, which my jandels definitely said no to.

It was still well worth a visit

Yesterday was a busy day with large bookings and many indoor tables while it rained outside. The view is charming, decor modern, food is incredible and their team a true delight! Regardless of the line of people to order, endless food flying out the kitchen and cabinet the staff were happy, uplifting, bubbly, working hard and very professional in what could have been a stressful environment. Clearly all of Whangarei and out-of-towners as myself enjoy this high quality food and service. Thank you team!

Great cafe. Always very accomodating for large groups. Good food and supreme coffee. Banana loaf was outstanding.
