Beechwoods Cafe reviews
51Food disgusting only got half the order. Would not recommend this place to stop and eat at
We arrived just after 3.00 in Saturday. Staff were behind counter, food in cabinets. One diner sitting outside. Staff member watched us try to open locked door, then we walked around to other door.she watched for a minute then yelled out “closed”. No sign saying open or closed. Service =0. Definitely not impressed.
Stopped on my way to Nelson and was totally ignored so left. Stopped again on the way back and they wanted $5.70 for a takeaway coffee! I declined and picked up a very nice one from the pub for $5. Not a good way to lose business 2 days in a row!
Popped in on the way up to Picton from hamner. Staff lacked personality or sense of humor.
Coffee was average. Milkshake was just syrup and milk. Don't even get me started on the pies. Tasted gamey almost like mutton. Unsure whether used shrimp paste or cross-contamination but I am allergic and throat was burning by the time I reached Renwick.
I give 1 start credit towards the toilet facility.
Used to be a nice spot to eat on the way to Christchurch. Now the food is really bad, even burgers are barely eatable. At such price definitely not recommended to stop by.
After the really insulting exchange at the counter we went to our table. My grandaughter had what we thought was the blueberry muffin we had ordered. When she got to the middle it was full of strawberry jam - she hates strawberry. I collected my quiche on the way out the door after we got sick of waiting for it to turn up. Including us there were 5 people in the cafe so surely not that hard to get it right.
We stopped specifically here as it looked nice. The bacon and egg slice would have been great if it wasn't barely heated in the microwave without any care and then literally thrown over the counter at me! I couldn't have a smoothie or milkshake without having it in a coffee take away cup which wouldn't have been too bad had I not been expected to pay almost full price for half the amount of product! And as for the service.the young lady that served me after making me wait a full 3 minutes standing at the counter.was rude and had a worse attitude than teenager when she is angry at not getting her own way not impressed at all. Only gave 2 stars as the food tasted great. Maybe change your staff or teach them some customer service skills.
Only ham and chicken sandwiches. Lots of other ham things. Nothing vegan or vegetarian that was savoury. Very odd. Lovely building though. Nice if you want sugary treats. Reply to owner - None of those things were there when I was there, and was not told there were other sandwich options, I did ask and she did not offer those, and only offered toasties.
Unfortunately pie was cold and coffee was burnt, to the owners: you can fix this by adjusting the hot water that comes through the tamped coffee, its nothing to do with the milk!
Traveled on Saturday 19th, food was average and milkshakes just flavoured milk, and girl on counter was very sour, must doesn’t like my English
Only really one of two places to get cafe lunch on the way through Murchison. Service is slow and the food is overpriced for what it is. Decidedly average.
Food was not nice, service was ok, but the amount of money we had to pay for fish and chips was not worth what we got for it.
Good array of food in the cabinets but would have liked a.small sandwich and not the huge dagwoods that were available. The toilets were very messy, with paper everywhere, large puddles of water on the floor, which could have been very dangerous and the toilets would not flush. There is a scribbled message on the side of the wall telling you to push the lever in to help with the flush, but tried this with no water coming through. I went to the counter and advised the young girl that the toilets needed attention, to which she said she would pass the message on. We sat for another ten minutes and no one went through to check.pretty poor for a large cafe on a tourist route I feel.
Very ordinary food has gone down hill a long way. Used to be our go to stop on way through.will look elsewhere next time.
Food was mediocre, service rather offhand and toilets were closed the whole time we were there, except for the one disabled toilet which had a queue the whole time.
Don't really pay attention to customers orders or customers as a whole was barely anyone in their n took 10mins for someone to actually serve me.
Everything's pretty average, food and coffee is average, nothing outstanding nor objectionable. Handy place to stop, with easy parking.
I don't know if it's due to Covid restrictions or changed hands, but it wasn't as good as usual. Food selection was limited and service was a bit slow. Hopefully be back to the usual standard in Nov when we pass through again.
Stopped there for a quick meal. Service is fast and friendly but not very accurate asked for poached eggs got fried. Side order of mushrooms straight out of a can. Average large breakfast. Coffee not bad but wont be winning any awards either. Should have complained about eggs but the counter staff was overwhelmed with customers.
Would I stop next time.the judges are still out
While we have stopped for a bite to eat at Beechwood while traveling through Murchison on many occasions today I was extremely surprised when paying for a scone and a coffee to eat on the premises to have to pay an extra 50cents for a small packaged cube of butter, not even enough to spread on the scone. This is a principle complaint not a financial one. In saying this the scone was very nice.
