Waikino Station Cafe reviews
66A great cafe in a unique setting. Go back in time, with pictures inside showing large-scale mining in the early 1900's.
A lovely place to go for a bite to eat and a drink, after or before a bike ride or walk on the track, coming to the beach or going hom e absolutely beautiful home made food
Food was nice but the duty manager on Tuesday February 1st, when we were there, was absolutely horrid!
I asked her if she actually wanted to argue with us about the pub down the road being shut, when we asked her a polite question! She clearly had no intention of being helpful.
I had intended to call Margaret who owns the spot to advise her that this woman was totally out of line with her comments to our group, so I hope Margaret has seen this and able to address her lack of personal skills, with respect to Margaret's buisnes here.
The food was tasty and fresh.
The location is sweet too.
At the end of the day, there are drinks in the cabinet that would have been enjoyed by our group had the reception been nicer.
Good feed and coffee. Worth the visit after exploring the battery, riding the train or cycling the trail.
Best steak burger ever. So simple but everything done well and the steak is the hero. Would have loved a Lion Red to go with it
Historic cafe that makes you feel like you've gone back in time. Good food, great coffee, and friendly service complete the package. Highly recommend for a stop, even if the train isn't running.
Pies to die for and a panini that's close behind. Cool location, a bit of history and good food. That's a great combo.
What a lovely part of the Waihi/Waikino train ride experience! Compliments to the chef at this quaint historical Cafe! The food was fresh and delicious. And without a word of a lie, their lemon cake was THE best I have ever had! I can highly recommend it! It was FULL of flavor, tangy & moist without being stodgy. I chose to have it with yoghurt to compliment it (which was absolutely perfect for it as they had cleverly added a touch of lemon curd in the centre of the yoghurt!). So the tangy bite from the lemon curd with the smooth flavor of the yoghurt was absolutely AMAZING!
P. S- You REALLY need the whole historical experience so, do the train ride and enjoy the atmosphere with Gavin and the rest of the team. I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it!
Such a tranquil historic place submerged in beautiful surroundings. The pictures on the walls take you back in time.
Lovely setting and enjoyed watching the kids getting on the train. The food looked good but was slow to arrive, way after coffee
Had to wait almost an Hour for Teas and Coffees, the poor waitress was serving customers queing out of the door making the drinks and also cleaning tables, when i asked about the Tea and Coffee after 45 minutes it still took 15 minutes to make, poor owners also asking for Donations for the non existent toilet roll.
New Zealand, year 2022 and still warm up pies in a microwave? Come on.you can do better. Some of the staff at the till was not friendly as usual.
Quick visit after train ride from Waihi. 2 coffees & slice of lollie cake at $17 a bit expensive (stat hol surcharge!) - fresh. Nonetheless excellent day out. Recommend.
A 10 minute queue to order, 15 minutes to heat a panini, bap and two pies which arrived 5 minutes after missing the train.
To give some context, the queue placed us third in line and the lady behind us handed her partner the an ice block as the queue was moving so slow, it would have melted before being paid for. The food ordered was all from the cabinet where the sign said to order from if catching the train.
While ordering our food we asked where to buy tickets and were told the next door would open soon, although it didn't, so we approached the friendly train driver, who advised that tickets can be purchased on arrival at the other end.
Delays happen, however, if the food is taking longer than the time remaining before the train departs, this should be communicated.
Thankfully, we drove to Waihi arrived in time to buy tickets, and had a lovely train ride, thanks to Sam, the friendly young host who made the trip interesting and fun for our kids.
Tried there Coffee the other day. Overall quite good, but had there takeway Coffee here today and sadly it was so hot and bad, i ended up leaving it on the table
A lovely cafe situated in waikino railway station. We came in winter and really loved the open fire, we sat next to it twice.we came back cos! It was so nice and cosy. The coffee was excellent and they had a delicious looking selection of freshly baked cakes. A lot of people come here to go on the railway to Waihi. You can buy your tickets and then have a coffee or stay for lunch.
Perfect place to stop for a coffee or some delicious home baking before or after taking the historic railway, or to break up a walk. The all-day brunch menu is pretty basic but the open fire, the old-timey look and feel of and the super friendly service I would definitely recommend it for a coffee and a scone
Lovely historic building and nice food. Only downside was the staff member who was very rude when we asked if the gluten free toasted sandwich could be cooked safely for our coeliac daughter on a separate clean pan. Totally cranky about it which left a sour taste in our mouths. She did eventually offer to cook it on baking paper on the shared pan which we were totally happy with, but it wouldn't have been difficult to do that with some good grace and without making us feel like second class citizens. Second time here - we love the rail trail and train - and the same thing happened the last time. Such a shame.
Amazing authenticity inside this cafe. Friendly staff and food was good.
Train ride up to Waihi was amazing as well.
Interesting historic building, lovely food, friendly staff, train trips and cycle ways on the doorstep
