Waikino Station Cafe reviews
66 Located in the historic station building, the cafe carries on a tradition of beautifully prepared food.
We'll worth a visit.
If you time out right you can catch the train to Waihi.
Stopped here for lunch and it is well worth while. Large portions, all day breakfast and a huge burger.
A lovely place the best homemade cooking ever. Worth every cent, affordable & service kind ladies ever. Love the place will go back if I had the time.
Pros: great location, convenient parking, many tables inside and outside, good atmosphere, and fantastic coffee.
Cons: very crowded near the train time, no iced coffee, a bit pricey cabinet food which was very basic and not appealing, uncleaned tables.
Conclusion: I would go back there just for coffee if I were in the area.
This place will always be a five star experience for me. My Nana used to bring my brother and I here on the regular when we were growing up, now I get to bring my own kids here. Bit more costly than I remember (about $48 for our family of five, x2 adults and x3 under 5). In all honesty, I'm happy to pay anything if it helps fund the maintenence of this place and keep it going forever! The staff are all really nice and very patient with the littlies, everyone was happy and smiley which is fantastic. The train ride is always a delight and I still get a little thrill when cars toot on the way past, haha. Grab a bite at Waikino station before returning to Waihi. I would suggest just cabinet food if the train is particularly busy as there can be quite a queue. We got pies and coffee and they were both tasty.
I enjoyed this cafe. I loved the atmosphere and the look and feel. Great for the kids when the train comes into the station.
Great food, friendly staff, and perfect to wait for the train (which is also recommended). Vegan options also available.
This is ALWAYS my first stop on my trips south! The atmosphere - from the wonderful open log fire in Winter to the breezy Summer- and the welcoming attitudes of the staff, is always a treat! Plus the food is varied and delicious! You are never felt rushed, and it's a great venue to replenish energy!
Nice old fashioned railway station cafe. I loved the setting with historical information inside. Nice food and lovely staff.
Quaint, lovely staff, tasty as kai and a bit of gold mining history thrown in. Just my cup of tea. Pun intended.
Good food friendly staff. But the station decor looks like it was robbed from a grave. Whats with the old flowers?
Waited over an hour for food. Told it would be only 1/2 an hour when ordering. We know your busy, but you have charged us extra for coming on a public holiday so you should use that money to make sure you have enough staff. Ruin family day out and think twice before recommending or coming again.
The station gives the nostalgic feeling.
The inside of the cafe is warm and cozy with the fireplace.
Comfy seating inside, two cafes and friendly staff
Great burgers and good prices. Super cute place, highly recommend stopping and grabbing a bit. There is a walk at the old rail tunnel a bit farther North
Somewhat underwhelming with staff struggling to cope with the influx of people off the scenic train
Always enjoy the service, coffee and food from Waikino. Old railway station with interesting displays showing the history of the area. A family favourite. Great walks, biking and other activities around
Well worth stopping over for a meal, coffee or whatever. Cafe menu is great value with very friendly service. We always stop here whenever possible en route to/fro Auckland.
Busy when the train is in the station but very efficient. Catered for one of our group being gf, even under pressure. Staff were also happy to make a child sized serve. We were able to enjoy our lunch and be back on the train for the return trip. Thanks.
Indoor and outdoor seating areas. Friendly service and a good selection of hot and cold food. Tea, coffee, soft drinks, cakes, toasties, soups and pies are some of the snacks available. We'll staffed and reasonably priced.
Coffee was nice but took so long for food to arrive. Not impressed with service either. Also, food was not delicious, eggs were over cooked and tomatoes weren't cut properly.
