The Larder reviews
64We went to The Larder because I'd had a pleasant meal there a while ago. Our experience yesterday however, was totally different. The place was about half full; it was after 2.00pm. We were seated and presented with a glass of tepid tap water; so far, so good. Then totally ignored for more than 20 minutes, despite a number of staff busying themselves tidying tables, glasses and tending to patrons at adjoining tables. We might as well have been invisible. So we left to plaintive words of 'we can take your order now'. Sadly, the moment had passed and the opportunity is unlikely to re-present itself again, ever. Very sad really, as the menu looked good.
We were in the area for the Weta tours and popped in to grab a quick bite prior, and it was so good we went back for lunch. I don’t have photos from brekkie because that was very quickly swallowed, but here were a few from lunch. Would’ve loved to go back for another meal if we could but too bad we were moving on today! Service was friendly and very helpful as well, though they do tend to get pretty crowded during peak times so you may have a bit of a wait. The only thing I didn’t quite like were that the coffees were a little on the sour side, but I just needed a bit of juice to jumpstart the morning engine so it was not trouble to me.
The best coffee on the North Island! Definitely don't miss having a coffee and try some of the pies, bread or cakes! The variety is mouth watering!
Stunningly excellent food. What a treat! Superb. Great corner cafe vibe and amazing selection of delicious dishes and pastries.
Service was friendly. Slightly disappointed with cup size ("large coffee" comes in mediums sized cup; there should be a bowl option), no wifi for customers and a bit cold this morning. Poached eggs on toast didn't require great cooking skills but excelled in its simplicity.
A great little spot to eat after Weta Workshop. They also did the best 'Wellington on a plate' burger.
Beautiful fresh and delicious food. Staff were excellent and food was served promptly. Great coffee. Recommend the pancakes if they are on the menu. Light and not overly sweet, but tgen again, all dishes at our table were delicious.
As a part of my Sperm Donation World tour, I arrive in Wellington and spontaneously do the weta caves workshop, while I waited for my tour to start, this little gem was up the road, and I was surprised it was so busy for a thursday.i ventured in had a lovely coffee, handcut chips and the wagyu pie was amazing
Absolutely delicious! I had the pleasure of attending a friends celebration last night and loved every minute of the evening. Such helpful attentive staff, great wine and the lamb was perfection. Thankyou so much The Larder! I cannot recommend you enough!
100% the best little cafe in Miramar! I have not had a single item here, from the cabinet or the menu, that wasn't amazing! Should be everyones first thought when they feel like a brunch or lunch out.
Staff are always lovely and helpful with a smile and a chat if you're that way inclined.
Not open all day so make sure you check before making your trip out there. The earlier the better for a better range of food before it all gets swooped up by other patrons.
Top notch food and service. If in the area give it a try before getting on the next flight out.
Plenty of unoccupied tables, but non available for us. Took a takeaway coffee and it wasnt hot. One of those places where it felt that they were the ones doing us a favour. We tried it anyway.
Nice pastry, coffee was cold and as we needed to takeaway, I was on my way and didn't want to turn back. Staff could be more welcoming too.
Sweetbreads can be polarizing but these wee guys are soft and coated in delicious crumbs. Served with a creamy aioli you could easily forget what your're chowing down on - the polenta chips are generous! The twice cooked goats cheese souffle is delicate and rich and the pear, hazelnut and gorgonzola salad is the perfecr accompaniment.
The octopus is the prettiest dish that my brunch eyes ever did see.
And also the tastiest.
You've got perfectly grilled octopus, chopped to bite size pieces, on a bed of radicchio, scattered cherry tomatoes, thinly sliced cucumber, speckles of olives; with smatterings of dill.
Take each mouthful with slightly different proportions, and comb in some of that dressing.
I also found the preserved lemon edible.
Divine.
Only work here is waiting for a table and trying to decide what to order!
Lovely food and coffee, very friendly staff, nice environment, looking forward to our next visit very soon.
We visited for the first time last week and it was AMAZING!
Flawless service from the whole team. Friendly and accomodating and ready to help when needed. The food was outstanding as well. While we were visiting the fantastic woman who was working the till told us about their bakery, Myrtle on Kent terrace which we have since visited and have equal rave reviews about food and service.
My boyfriend and I came here yesterday and we both ordered the scrambled eggs on toast with halloumi. After we left, maybe 30 minutes later we got MAJOR stomach problems.we had a look at our symptoms and it said we both likely had food poisoning/salmonella.
Great coffee and excellent cabinet food especially the cheese and onion scones. Brilliant location, very relaxed atmosphere and friendly service
The best brunch and lunch spot in all of Wellington. It’s so worth the drive from town to eat here. Great service & coffee & the food is divine. Menu is always changing and seasonal. The hardest part is getting a park and then a table! Have a meal then spend some time at the beach, it’ll make for an amazing day in Miramar.
