Tulsi Petone reviews
70Great food nice ambience and amazing Nepali cuisine. We had American Chopsuey Cilli chicken momo's and thakali khana set with goat curry. The taste was spot on and different flavours than what we have so far.
Venturing into this Wellington restaurant, one of two in the city, we anticipated a delightful Nepalese fusion experience. The spacious setting offered numerous seating options, providing a comfortable atmosphere.
Despite the restaurant's tranquility, the staff showcased warm hospitality. However, their meal recommendations were somewhat lackluster and failed to guide us convincingly. Opting to trust our instincts, we ventured into the realm of Nepalese specialties.
For starters, the Everest Meat Platter proved a highlight, featuring delectable Fried Chicken Momos and perfectly charred Garlic Tikka Chicken. While the dish was flavorful, the inclusion of Fries felt less authentic. The trio of dips—Tomato Sauce, mildly spiced Chili Sauce, and a refreshing Coriander sauce—added a delightful touch.
Moving on to the main course, we selected the Thakali Khana set with goat as the primary meat. This generously portioned dish boasted an array of sides, including Pulses curry, Rice, Pickles, Roasted Potatoes, Cooked Veggies, Fresh Cucumbers, Curried Cauliflower, Papadum, one Gulab Jamun dessert, and the cooling Nepalese milk-based drink, Mohi. Although nothing stood out as truly memorable, the diverse offerings made for an enjoyable exploration.
Despite our initial satisfaction, the subsequent order of momos—both vegetarian and lamb—fell short of expectations. Served steamed rather than the preferred pan-fried, the dumplings retained an unwelcome wateriness, detracting from their flavor.
Concluding the meal with chai, the experience took a downturn. Only one cup arrived, and the watered-down taste left us disappointed. Regrettably, this dining escapade does not warrant a return visit. Nevertheless, curiosity might lead us to explore the other branch in Thorndon.
Food is not as great as it used to be. Service is average. The person behind the counter can barely understand. Not a great overall experience.
Wow, just wow.
Had an amazing experience here momos are a must I'm a big fan of dumplings and these did not disappoint.
There was two of us and we grabbed the momos and feast dish with a bit of everything it was very tasty and filling there wasn't one thing I didn't like right down to the pickled radish.
Service was also excellent, kind and friendly staff.
It's also byo wine lol
Worst Butter Chicken I’ve had in my life, if you want the worse Butter Chicken in New Zealand come here, it was soooo tasted water down, I’d rather eat butter chicken from Countdown, wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone
Amazing food and staff very friendly and accommodating. We had a big group of people who had an enjoyable time. Thoroughly recommend Tulsi Petone

Lovely time and aye fantastic entrée followed by aye awesome butter chicken.great service.would recommend to anyone
Uber Eats order, asked for utensils and mentioned please please please (3 times), but at last. Please do not excuse staff shortages, I'll wait for your response.
I initially tried a few indian restaurants and I thought nothing tastes nearly as good as in India. But after going to a few more restaurants like Tulsi and Chilli Spice it turned around.
Its just that you have to try and see a few dishes before thinking bad. The grill meat platter I tried here was awesome.
Tulsi is always my "go to" when I look for a reliable meal out.
But I'm not quite sure if there's a change in cooks, but over the past few times, my vindaloo has been quite different each time. Spices and aromatics guaranteed but lacks a bit of consistency is key.
Overall, an average dining experience.
Made an online pickup order, gets a call back after closing, appolizing they missed the order. Thanks for making me skip dinner for a night
Very slow service for a nearly empty restaurant, saw delivery drivers waiting for over 30 minutes, seemed that all the customers in the restaurant were waiting a long time.
Poor service.
First and last order from here - and only because my usual restaurant is currently closed. I ordered, via Uber Eats Priority, chicken tikka and tandoori prawn starters. Both were absolutely terrible and, even coming straight to me only 10 mins away, cold. The chicken tikka had zero flavour and the tandoori prawns tasted mostly of garlic and not like any other tandoori prawns I've ever had. Both went promptly in the bin - so I'm $30 odd down and hungry. Never again.
Delicious food and surprised to see the new changes. Loved the new experience with tablet ordering.
