Colenso Country Cafe & Country Shop reviews
67Were there for breakfast. Good selection, everything homemade. It tasted great and the service was very friendly.
Lovely cafe and gift shop. They have very nice cake and good coffee! Definitely recommend, the place is beautiful.
Good menu options and cabinet food. Hubby pleased with the highly ecommended Shakshuka eggs. Spinach and Feta filo was nice and light. Definite drawcard was to try the vanilla slice which didn't disappoint. Heaps of seating and lovely gardens.
We love this spot, a real gem for great coffee, super staff and yummy food, a countryside retreat for those in the know
I do not usually give 5 star ratings. This easily overlooked cafe is an exception. It combines a lovely rural setting, great coffee and food at ordinary prices.
Wonderful discovery on the way to Whitianga, excellent fresh food, tasty coffee and smooth service, I'll be back
I love the atmosphere of this cafe. The outside seating is especially nice on sunny days. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. It's a little far from my house, but I visit several times a year.
Awesome and very Wholesome cafe nested in a valley just a short drive past Tairua, Awesome staff, awesome food and they also have a wonderful and boutique knick-knack store to have a nosy through!
Superb food in a lovely garden setting. We had the Bacon and Egg Pie and the Chicken and Leak Pie along with a spoonful of really tasty spiced cauliflower salad. Super place for lunch and a farm to table bite to eat.
Lovely place to stop. Food was delicious, the grounds are interesting to wander around and the shop was full of delightful goodies.
The food is always amazing here. Both times I've gone I had the ham and egg pie - if it can be called that. Very busy kitchen catering to an always busy lunchtime. Seating outside in shade is appreciated.
Came across this absolute gem on our way back to Auckland. So worth the stop! Such a special cozy place with really good coffee, lovely seating, and a beautiful garden/orchard. There’s even an area where you can buy goodies like books, clothes, etc. Will definitely be back in the future
The range of food is somewhat limited but makes up by being very tasty. I had the smoked fish pie and my wife the roast beef baguette with pickles and onion jam.very nice. We sat outside on tables amongst the trees, all very pleasant. They have a shop full of interesting honeys, relishes, soaps, books, etc. Staff are very polite and helpful. The eatery is a short distance from Whitianga and just 15 minutes from Tairua. We'll worth a relaxed few hours away from everything.
Great location, ambience, and food! Lovely shop with gifts and preserves. Had the tastiest salted caramel macadamia cheesecake. Very friendly staff. A must stop:)
Beautiful setting with so much potential but unfortunately we were let down. Indoor area to line up to order is tiny and you cannot see food in the cabinet until you are first in the queue. Very limited in food choices especially for your picky eater or person with allergies. Medium coffee size was more of a small but was a nice coffee. Felt very ripped off with the children's meal. $7 for a sandwich and fruit, came out with 2 pieces of sourdough bread which was tough and my 4 year old struggled to eat. Bread came with a massive chunk of butter on it and we had to spread ourselves (had to make our own sandwich.what's the point of going out for lunch then?) Cabinet food was very average and came out overheated which ruined the taste. Toasted sandwiches were bland and only 2 flavour options. Also food in the cabinet was not all avaliable so when I thought I had made up my choice then I got caught out at the front of the line and had to hold up other people trying to make another choice. Lastly when asking staff for help/ support with the menu and what was avaliable we were met with a very blunt and rude response. I understand it was a busy time but it is never okay to treat a paying customer that way. Will not be returning.
Lovely country vibes, delicious food and very friendly staff. Absolutely worth a visit to enjoy the food and the beautiful garden.
I have wanted to stop at this cafe and gift shop on the way to Whitianga for ages and finally I did. It did not disappoint. There was a good range of GF, vegetarian and even some vegan food. It was a sunny day so great to eat outdoors, walk around the garden and a place for the kids to play too. The staff were welcoming and helpful and I will definitely stop in again.
Excellent beef roll and iced mocha frappe. Relaxed environment with seating indoors if it is raining
Lovely cafe with friendly staff. Fresh delicious scones and a fantastic flat white. Also good collection of books, local mate items, etc for your gifts.
Just a slice of paradise, set in expansive grounds with lovingly tended gardens, right there on the roadside. Humble but wholesome menu, We were there for breakfast which arrived in short order. Coffees served within 10 minutes, food 5 minutes after. Service second to none, portions generous. Complimentary cube of polenta cake on the side. Lots to look at, art wise, in the villa and tucked into garden spaces.
