Federal Delicatessen reviews
89Worth a visit for the poutine. Avoid if you are vegetarian or dislike anti-vegetarian attitudes.
Everything was ten out of ten except the seating, it's very squashed and claustrophobic inside. The tables are too big with very tight space for seating. I only had fries regular and a coke that came in a nice cold glass with ice. Sauces are on the table, request normal sauce not spicy. Chips were a decent price I would go back n maybe sit outside or get takeaway if they do that takeout because I hate the seating that much. Waiters were attentive and friendly. Please offer a receipt upon payment. Can't really get a coke and fries wrong. Idk where ppl park I walked.
Delicious eats here every time, great for all times of the day. A morning Best ugly bagel and the best Good Joe coffee, my favourite chicken sandwich for lunch, poutine fries for dinner and a delicious selection of pies for dessert.
Have been there twice for lunch. Pickled pork tastes fantastic and special! With a crispy crust and tender texture of pork. Hot dog is very delicious! And very sizable, can shared with two if eat other dishes. Tuna Melt is good! Very dishes are good! The staff are warm and hospitable to guests. The cheese cake was sold out and he saw my disappointment. And several minutes later came back to tell me that chef is making a new one. Very sweet! They have brunch menu and dinner menu. Will come back to try dinner. Love the place.
Worst customer service. We ordered dine in and take away but they never served the items we ordered to the table and there were missing items in the take away list too.staff never even worried about it or apologized. They think we just came to eat for free.
I came here on my recent trip to Auckland, I had seen a Tik Tok video about them so I really wanted to go, and I was not disappointed! I got the chicken sandwich toasted with the gravy and it has to be one of the best things I have eaten, so good! I got bottomless ice tea which was yum and ended it off with the pecan pie and OMG it was good.highly recommend! It does get really busy in there I went at 12pm on a Friday so it was the lunch rush but being by myself I got a seat easy as and it was nice to see a place so busy
Maybe it was the best brunch of my life, or it should be at least the best in Auckland. Food was incredible, environment was excellent (I felt like in the 60s!), very good bottomless coffee, super nice staff. 100% recommended
Staff were excellent, service was speedy and they food was great. Lovely to sit outside in the sunshine! Pecan pie is a must have.
Awesome place, lovely staff, excellent food and coffee. 100% recommended. A great trip to the past.
Food was good but the blonde woman who served us at the counter as we paid had a really unpleasant attitude. She hadn’t even waited on us so not sure why she had such a problem at the counter with us.
I got a takeaway ny cheesecake just 5 minutes ago and the shape looks annoying. It seems like I lost one bite of cake T. T
Food was excellent but the customer service was not good at all one female staff member really needs to learn how to provide good customer service and treat people with respect and not act dismissve
Service and environment were great, however there are insufficient vegetarian options and on the night I visited the only vege bagel was unavailable meaning that my choices were salad, salad or salad.
As much as I wanted to love my time dining here it was soured by a few minor annoyances that added up to an awkward and uncomfortable experience.
After about 5 minutes of being seated, a member of our party called over a waiter and ordered a drink. At that point we were ready to order but the waiter had already left after the first item had been ordered, not giving anyone else a chance to order anything.
At one point I had ordered some filtered coffee and sometime after I ordered was asked if anyone on our table had ordered coffee.
Lastly we ordered the poutine fries with the rest of our food. All of our food came and we ate it all before the fries ended up arriving at our table, which if I was to guess would’ve been at least 20 minutes, when it did arrive it was just normal fries and we had to call the wait staff over again to correct our order. Again these are minor annoyances but it definitely didn’t help the customer service experience
I will admit these grievances are quite pedantic and I can understand that on a busy Sunday at lunch the wait staff can get quite busy and the customer service may not be what it usually is.
The food on the other hand was amazing. I couldn’t help myself and inhaled the fish hoagie without ever putting it down. The turkey on rye had a mind blowing combination of soft and crunchy texture and was filling without being heavy. The hot cocoa actually tasted like cocoa and not just warm sugar.
Do yourself a favour and try some amazing deli inspired food!
Overall I would recommend the Federal Delicatessen purely based on the food - it’s just that good. The customer service leaves a lot to be desired and I hope that it was a one off experience that I had.
Loved the place, great food and lovely staff despite the wait & crowd (weekend brunch - their busiest!)
If you are looking for down to earth American style food (with some more modern cuisine optiins as well), coffee, service and surroundings, you have to try it. Be prepared to wait 15 mins for a table when they are busy coz its popular! You must try it.
We waited 20 minutes for a table, but it was worth it for the delicious food and friendly staff.
Good vegetarian options and the lemon and meringue pie was spot on. Staff were pretty cool as well.
It was a completely American style meal, so I could have a good dinner because it was unique. I've been to many restaurants, but the interior of the store was impressive, and the atmosphere of the American style came out. The food was pretty good, too. The gravy fries were the best! You must eat gravy fries. I can't say the service was very good. I didn't treat badly, but I didn't really feel the tone of voice and welcome. But if you want to have a special American meal, it's worth a visit?
Easily one of my favourite spots in the city. Food is always delicious (best poutine in Auckland!) and service is fast and friendly:)
