Federal Delicatessen reviews
89 Our 1st day in Auckland as we were bit tired and we were looking for good breakfast place and we found this. In the city center.
Amazing food, beautiful ambiance and great service. Price was normal n quantity was good.
OK - this is our local - it’s always buzzing over the weekends and most nights - popular with locals & tourists - and the menu highlight would have to be a large plate of Poutine - the gravy & cheese is divine. And the New York Cheese Cake is my fav dessert
Auckland's New York style Jewish deli isn't 100% kosher but this isn't the Bronx neither. They probably have the best Ruben Sandwich for sale in New Zealand. Also the pie is excellent.
Lovely spot. On a cold, rainy night last October I had the bartender make me a hot toddy (his first) and I had a tasty meal to pair with it. Really nice place that feels like an American dinner and with a friendly staff.
Disappointing. Showed up today to be turned away! Apparently they need the restaurant for a staff meeting for 2 hours, seems crazy. Lots of staff sitting around eating by the looks of things. I've been here before and it was good but this was very annoying, drove an hour to get there. If you really want to go here I would call and get confirmation they will be open. They seem unreliable. This is a very commercial restaurant btw
We gathered as a group of 6 and seated on bolted down seats where you hit your knees. Tables available but were not allowed to move. Poor service.
After seeing so many positive reviews and hearing a lot about it, I was interested to check it out, but it's basically how I expected: overpriced and unimpressive. More atmosphere than actual quality.
Probably the clearest example of this was the peanut butter "milkshake" which was literally just lukewarm milk in a child-size glass with peanut butter mixed in and not a hint of "shake" to be found. Service was fine, interesting menu, nice decor, but it's a shame that everything we had ranged from "average" down to "mediocre" and certainly not what I'd expect from a New York-style deli.
Maybe it used to be better?
Wonderfully cosy inside with the open kitchen. Breakfast/ brunch menu closes at 3: 30pm where it is replaced by the dinner choices. We had the Poutine with pastrami, filling and warming. Great friendly and attentive service. Will be back for dinner.
