The Cabbage Tree Restaurant reviews
62Perfect place to bring kids! Exceptional service from all staff - didnt mind fussy eaters and food exceeded expectations especially the ribs and the fries. Excellent bar tender and such a great menu range.
Meal had foreign material in it. Ordered nachos and had begun eating it when I spotted what looked like a piece of printed paper about a centimetre across in the topping. They replaced the meal (which was pretty average and poor value for a bar meal at $22). I wouldn’t be going back there.
Food was great, but there was very little service. We were are large party but no drinks waiter, we had to keep going inside to get our drinks, we had to go in to ask for more water for the table and it was a bit of a wait so we didn't have time for the desert menu or coffee.
Great large menu selection. Had first table. Meal was cooked to perfection. Great value for money even not the first table. Will be back and totally recommend
Food was ok. Unfortunately staff struggled to serve our table. Waited for ages to get drinks and take orders. Weeds a plenty in garden. Lawns needed a cut.
Lovely venue, shame about the service.
Lovely atmosphere, but sadly staff need to sharpen up and food needs to improve immensely. Section could be tidyed. Such a great venue. Could be a goldmine
Beautiful meals here a my family goes here when in Invercargill very good meals & prices are reasonable
Fantastic time at the cabbage tree, loved the kids area, the staff were amazing.and my meal was yum. I will definitely be back
Service was friendly but did not regularly visit the table (we had to flag someone down to order and for drinks too).
Food was ok. Definitely wasn't delivered hot and fresh to the table. Took about an hour and a quarter to get mains.
Large restaurant with plenty of fire places and different areas to sit.
Large menu full of lovely food. Wonderfully helpful staff.
Was very disappointed. Used to dine here alot as a kid and it was very good then, now went there lastnight fot tea and the service was absolutely hopeless. Waitress only came around once asking if we wanted drinks and never offered us a entree menu or dessert menu, instead we had to ask another waitress for the menus and had to walk up to the bar for drinks. The main meals we recieved were very average and the steaks we had were all cooked over done along with the lame back straps. The hygiene was disgusting at the table where we were sitting and the toilets looked like they hadn't been cleaned in years. We left pretty disappointed. Won't be going back there in a hurry at all!
Amazing dining experience by far. The food we order exceeded our expectations. We love. All of the food on the table and with the price we paid it's all worth it. Having outdoor play area for an active toddler like our son is a plus for a fine dining like the cabbage tree. It gives the family time to go out and dine in a fancy restaurant without worrying of having kids with them. Our boy enjoyed the art material that was give to him too so it's another plusGreat place, and customer service
Had chicken schnitzel meal, chips cold, tiny wee dry salad in little bowl, chicken dry over cooked, friends meal late, poached eggs raw n cold, her partners ham steak burnt on one side, just over priced average meals very disappointed passed it on to server who said he'd tell the kitchen
Not the best meal and service was poor. One staff member was dashing around trying to do his best to cover for our slack waitress. The place was not busy!
This place really knows their stuff! Massive range to choose from and all our choices (4) were brilliant. Desserts were impressive too - not too sweet but just delicious. Churrr
Looking forward to evening dinner in the garden bar on a beautiful Invercargill evening. Unfortunately the experience was just average.
Ushered to our table, given a jug of water and no glasses. Then drinks order taken and only 1 drink delivered and after 25 minutes had to ask for other.
Entrées arrived and not cutlery. Had to get our own cutlery, napkins and salt and pepper from elsewhere. Ordered Seafood Chodwer and only luke warm and had a skin on the top.
Mains were delivered and 2nd round of drinks ordered. Were half thru meals and had to go to bar to get own drinks. At least mains were to satisfaction.
On leaving apologies from staff and discounts on bill.
Not up to usual standard I expect from The Cabbage Tree Restaurant. Staff were courteous and friendly. Large crowd in adjacent Hall so could have extended staff limits?
Date of visit: November 2020
Been here a few times over the years but on the 14th Nov we used this venue for our wedding ceremony and reception.
I don't give 5 stars to anything other than 'exceptional'.
On this occassion and for this event the Cabbage Tree was exceptional.
Nick (owner) and his staff were nothing sort of exceptional.
Cost wise they were absolute good value for money especially given the quotes we were given from other venues.
In organising the event including use of the function hall, the garden/lawn area, the food, setup etc and everything that was involved - we couldn't have asked for better.
Most obliging, accommodating and flexible to all or plans and the few changes we made.
Nick and his staff were most astute and professional and I would highly recommend this venue for any function in the future.
Big thumbs up to his staff on the night as well as Nick himself.
Very much appreciated.
Food average. We were a family group and told to keep our noise down because we were laughing. Grandchildren were upset by this, the youngest in tears.
Lovely atmosphere. Warm, Cozy, great food, and fantastic friendly staff. Every time we have been, we have not been dissapointed.
Had the Surf and Turf steak. Ordered Steak medium rare and was cooked perfect. The BRB IPA was great so had to have another one. Service was good also.great meal
