Egmont Street Eatery reviews
725 of us sat down for breakfast. No one came to take order for 15 minutes. By the time they did I was only able to get a cup of coffee. (time constraints) Tables here seat two people so our group took 3 tables. Before my cup of coffee came I was told that I will get my coffee in takeaway cup but will need to move from the table I was sitting because there was a couple coming for breakfast. Mind you table wasn't reserved and we were 5 of us sitting down for breakfast. I don't tend to leave negative feedback but asking someone leave table because they were only drinking a cup of coffee is bit low. Cancelled the coffee order and went somewhere else. Won't be coming back and won't be recommending to friends either.
Modern decor with nice atmosphere. The meal took a long time to come and the buttermilk chicken was over powered by too many gherkins. Service was okay.
A lovely café tucked away in an alleyway. Not flash by any means but is compensated by lovely friendly staff, excellent coffee and hearty, yummy food. Made with love and eaten with love. We'll be back!
Great atmosphere, lovely service, and possibly the most delicious halloumi + avocado on toast I have ever eaten. Would eat here again in a heartbeat.
Tried the smoked potato hash for breakfast. I enjoyed the flavour and it was a large portion size. Cold brew coffee also great. Staff friendly and attentive. Will return another time to try waffles which look good.
Underwhelming. Lukewarm coffee. Slow cooked egg not cooked. Smoked potatoes dominated by spicy kimchi and chewy dry bacon lumps.
Really hard to find vegan options in the menu. I got the vegetarian burger then. The ban was still frozen and the sauce extremely salty. I just eat it because we had already waited for so long and by the time the meal arrived, I was starving. When asked about the food at the counter, I let them know that it was below avarage. But they didn't seem to either care or mind. Just annoyed that I actually replied with the true to their question.
Excellent.
Small menu with inspired dishes.
Extensive wine list, however the different sizes available needs to be clearer, maybe a small legend or key as to size in millilitres?
The eatery is compact, cosy and intimate and well worth a visit.
Friendly efficient staff.
We hadn't been to Egmont Street Eatery since the (fantastic) Wellington on a plate mashup with Cumulus Inc, but our Saturday brunch was amazing. Perfect waffles with interesting bits (dehydrated strawberry wafers and cinnamon sugar), and a pastrami hash with perfect slow eggs. We'll definitely be back
Amazing food and friendly service.
Bbq baked beans comes served on the best cornbread I've ever tried!
Waffles are also rather decadent.
Highly recommended
Everything was cooked to perfection at the Egmont Street Eatery. The steak was the best, the fish was soft and tender. The side potatoes, the starter and even complementary fried chickpeas were delicious. Thank you for all your effort, we'll be back when we are in Wellington again. Also, that cocktail was amazing! Well done.
Outstanding food. We had a wonderful time. Egmont Street Eatery deserves to be ranked up there with some of the country’s best eateries.
Small boutique eatery, central but tucked away and cosy. Limited menu for lunch or dinner and overpriced house wine but worth giving a go. Nice for a quiet date night.
Busy cafe again, great service and lovely menu, tasty, different nice having small amount to choice from. Not biggest fan of soft egg a bit to gooey and was expected it to be whole like boiled egg not poached.
When we were seated we were asked "still water or sparkling? " We assumed that both were on tap as is fairly common these days. We were disappointed to find that we were charged $7 per sparkling water. A very tacky way to get more money out of customers. I understand that restaurants make money from drinks but we were already buying multiple cocktails and sides as well as mains. While I know this is a money-making practice overseas, I was disappointed to find it in a relaxed and otherwise nice restaurant in Wellington. Beyond this, the food was good with imaginative ingredients and well made gnocchi. It's a shame this tactic was used to make more money.
Only critical part of my whole meal last night was that my cocktail was a bit sweet, so i got the fish and lamb fish was great fiance said but the lamb was incredible who knew parmesan and lamb with go together, for desert lemon tart was good date along was perfect. Highly recommend
Had the market fish and thought it was really nice. Everything on the plate tasted great together and it looked super pretty too. Lots of elements and textures.
Great night out, highlight being possibly the best gnocchi I’ve ever had.super light, melt on your mouth goodness. Staff were pleasant and accommodating. Recommend sitting upstairs or alfresco during summer.
Delicious breakfast, and we sat at the counter and watched the chefs prepare all of the dishes - they were like artists, really impressive!:)
Amazing brunch! I had the pancakes, which were the most delicious pancakes I've ever had! We also tried the potato hash and the beef sandwiches - both were amazing! Highly recommend this place.
