Egmont Street Eatery reviews
72Really nice decor and the corn bread was delicious but the service was incredibly subpar and food was very expensive considering portion sizes and ratios of ingredients. I ordered house beans which came with Avocado and two eggs as a side (an extra $7) and when my food arrived there was one measly half a slice of avo. My partner also ordered the potato hash with sauerkraut, paid $7 for extra sausage and it didn't even come with sauerkraut. Was difficult to get seated for food (they had been busy but we sat at the bar, got coffee and were pretty much ignored until we got up and grabbed menus and asked about a table again). Waited almost an hour for food, would have gone somewhere else had we been informed of wait time. Won't be returning.
Over rated and over priced, the Smoked potatoe hash let say it: it's just very expensive potatoes and egg. The service is pretty bad and you wait ages to get served. So many better places to go in Welli!
5 of us sat down for breakfast. No one came to take order for 15 minutes. By the time they did I was only able to get a cup of coffee. (time constraints) Tables here seat two people so our group took 3 tables. Before my cup of coffee came I was told that I will get my coffee in takeaway cup but will need to move from the table I was sitting because there was a couple coming for breakfast. Mind you table wasn't reserved and we were 5 of us sitting down for breakfast. I don't tend to leave negative feedback but asking someone leave table because they were only drinking a cup of coffee is bit low. Cancelled the coffee order and went somewhere else. Won't be coming back and won't be recommending to friends either.
Underwhelming. Lukewarm coffee. Slow cooked egg not cooked. Smoked potatoes dominated by spicy kimchi and chewy dry bacon lumps.
Really hard to find vegan options in the menu. I got the vegetarian burger then. The ban was still frozen and the sauce extremely salty. I just eat it because we had already waited for so long and by the time the meal arrived, I was starving. When asked about the food at the counter, I let them know that it was below avarage. But they didn't seem to either care or mind. Just annoyed that I actually replied with the true to their question.
When we were seated we were asked "still water or sparkling? " We assumed that both were on tap as is fairly common these days. We were disappointed to find that we were charged $7 per sparkling water. A very tacky way to get more money out of customers. I understand that restaurants make money from drinks but we were already buying multiple cocktails and sides as well as mains. While I know this is a money-making practice overseas, I was disappointed to find it in a relaxed and otherwise nice restaurant in Wellington. Beyond this, the food was good with imaginative ingredients and well made gnocchi. It's a shame this tactic was used to make more money.
Didn't love the potato hash with soft egg, cabbage and sausage. The cabbage was the best part and yet very little in the dish. Presentation was not appealing and if you dine alone you are not made to feel welcome. At least that was my experience. I've eaten all over Wellington and this was one of my least favorite places. Cute spot in an alley by Avis rental.
The food was pretty average. I had read lots of good things but it didn't live up to expectations. The Hash Potatoes with thai sausage and cabbage - not very inspiring. Carby but nothing else.
Modern decor with nice atmosphere. The meal took a long time to come and the buttermilk chicken was over powered by too many gherkins. Service was okay.
$6 side for 2 of the smallest sausages you've ever seen. Bring a magnified glass. Good coffee and thick toast.
Writing the menu on quality paper with helvetica font shouldn't give anyone the right to charge 20$ for a sandwich. Over crowded, you don't even hear your friends, over priced. Very poser/posh. In Wellington, you have much better options.
Food and cocktails are above average. Service friendly and prompt. Was hoping for crispy potatoes on their "smoked hash" dish to provide a bit of texture but potatoes were just a bit ordinary. Everything else was done nicely.
Excellent.
Small menu with inspired dishes.
Extensive wine list, however the different sizes available needs to be clearer, maybe a small legend or key as to size in millilitres?
The eatery is compact, cosy and intimate and well worth a visit.
Friendly efficient staff.
Small boutique eatery, central but tucked away and cosy. Limited menu for lunch or dinner and overpriced house wine but worth giving a go. Nice for a quiet date night.
Been here multiple times and enjoyed every visit. Every visit included a menu change and I'm constantly satisfied with the variety of menu items. Always excited to eat here.
Smallish place. Tucked away down a small side street with the restaurant area actually below street level. Some tap beers and a good wine/ beer list. Small manageable food menu.
Food and service excellent. Mains delicious but desserts don't seem to be their strong point (based on one only).
Usual pricing about $35 for mains.
We would go there again.
We came in for dinner last night and the menu was fantastic. The crudo was my absolute favourite with the flavours balanced beyond perfection but I also loved the gnochi. My partner ordered the tartare which I'm not normally a fan of but this version was great and very clever. The atmosphere, service and overall experience was just delightful with the team being more than helpful especially with our dietary requirements. Will be back soon =)
Flawless.
Great attention to detail - music, vibe, attentive service and exquisite breakfast
I hadn't been to Egmont Eatery for a while and noticed the interior decor and layout had changed which looked amazing. The service was top-notch. I can honestly say that it's one of the best attentive restaurant service that I've ever experienced in Wellington. The waitering staff were friendly, helpful and able to answer all of my questions about the menu and food options, which is how it should be.
The food was incredible. We started with the comte (cheese) souffle and focaccia bread, which was very different but amazing. For mains we had the grilled octopus, spiced lamb ribs with a side of asparagus. You could see how much effort had gone into each of these dishes. They were all delicious and the asparagus was perfectly cooked.
For dessert we had the poached pear. This was probably our least favourite dish of the night as the pear was quite firm. I was expecting the pear to be a lot softer and easier to cut into and it would've been great if it was accompanied with a yummy caramel/butterscotch sauce.
I'll definitely be going back there.
Wonderfull service and delicious food. The waffles were very filling.
Great spot for brunch would highly recommend.
