Waikato District Health Board reviews
79The Waikato hospital saved my life, and I really mean that. The gratitude I have is truly. Indescribable.
Chris from the amu department above emergency room is a real piece of work. He gets names wrong and sends patients to different departments and then when you bring it up with him he gets upset and calls security cos he didn't feel safe after wife told him to stop laughing at her face about it. We tried complaining but he makes a game of it and calls security cos he doesn't accept responsibility. Not a nice guy, I think he should be fired. His boss came in and yelled at us aswell even tho they tried to stick things up my wife's backside when actually there for CT scan.
My mother was admitted through Angelsea medical by a doctor, and was told to from up to ED with her referral to be admitted to the ward.
We arrived at ED and that’s not what happened at all. Saw 4 different nurses, got moved 3 times over (including being put along the nurses station) 7 hours before seeing any doctor at all (even though letter from Angelsea was from a GP, and was a referral direct to a surgeon).
The WORST thing was that her allergies were not fully listed, and we had to correct 3 nurses because the paperwork they were reading was wrong/ incomplete. Patients having to repeat detailed information over and over is completely unacceptable, and just straight dangerous.
The staff are trying - but the system is completely broken, and it seems that for every good story, there’s at least 3 horror stories. If there was an alternative within a 100km radius, I’d happily use it instead.
Traumatized by an assault by two female aggressors who woke me from my sleep after a funeral gathering I had my hoodie pulled over my face so I could not see then punched in the face following hits to the head. I had concussion, nasal fracture amongst bruising from hits to the head and kicks to the legs. Summary from the Waikato Hospital Discharge stated it was due to Alcohol Intoxication? My ethanol reading was in the mildly intoxication levels. Their attitudes were accusatory and treated me as though I was the aggressor when I was the victim. Poor attitude by admittance Doctor and staff. Thankfully the Shift Doctor was more empathetic to my injuries. Appauling experience to have to go through Waikato Hospital on top of being assaulted.
Have found doctors and staff excellent (if overworked) but there was no excuse for the situation I found myself in today. I have arthritis in both hips in addition to several other age-related complaints. Went to get my kidneys checked out today, only to find that the doors to Level 3 were locked. A small notice to one side advised that access could only be made via Level One. Back to the lift and another long, uncomfortable, walk.
The hospital sent a notice of the appointment a month or so ago, and another reminder last week, both with a list of detailed instructions, but absolutely no warning about locked doors.
My hips were extremely painful by the time I had finished and I was left with uncharitable thoughts about the hospital's office staff.
Waikato hospital call operators the Ed staff Dr's nurses ARE ALL ON OVERLOAD STRUGGLING WITH HUGE INHUMAINE workloads. 5* to them for copng as they do and Shame on this govt for being so ignorant and flippant to ignore their needs and the people dying and suffering that can't get care. While they jet around pretending they are Kind and caring to nzers.shame on you.the heros are the people on the Frontline coal face daily.paid a pittance compared to politicians.
My son went to the hospital in Ambulance seriously ill. In the ED the nurse said to him (what do you want us to do to u) ? Why do you come here? So rude!
Room my mother stayed in were leaking from the windows. Literal Pools of water on the window sill. By the look of the other reviews on this hospital this place is disgusting.
ONLY HERE FOR NICU thank you to the team who care for the babies you treated us like family and made our stay with my preemie so less stressful!
We have just had amazing service from all the staff here from the Emergency room right through the consultation and finally surgery all within a two hour period on a Saturday afternoon.
The on call Opthalmology team were here within minutes to perform laser surgery.
Won't even answer (automation hangs up when they answer) after a drawn out introduction then waiting for an answer they just hang up in your ear!
Very poor service, my family have come to visit my dad who was in the hospital and the nurse came up to us and say no kids allowed. And is nowhere for kids to go no one to look after them. We drove 5 hours to come and visit dad who need a surgery. The nurse was very rude.
Don't go if you're having an emergency. Might as well perform self-surgery. You'd probably even heal up before a doctor comes to see you.
Rude nurse at the front desk too.
I was rushed to Ed via ambulance and stayed for 5nights unexpectedly. Resulting in surgery. I was not happy to stay at first due to all that I have heard. However during my stay I was looked after well. The food has definitely stepped up a notch and the staff were amazing. From the cleaners to the surgeons and all the staff in between. Being able to see all were rushed and trying their best and were still able to care for patients and still managing to smile was a massive thing for me.hearing disgruntled patients (which I understand were sick/worried or in pain needing care) going off just makes me sad. Massive thank you to all the staff working long hours on hard day trying their best to help us all at such a trying time for everyone.
I have just had Maria as my nurse in the ED and wow one of the kindest and most patient nurses I've ever had, an absolutely beautiful person inside and out
Worst i dont even want to give a single star. Person was in front of me bleeding and the nurses were ignoring him and he was losing bleed what kind of hospital is this is there any nurse! Any manager who can handle the nurses attitude.
Would like to thank the nurses and the doctors from ward M18 they did a great job looking after me with my gallbladder surgery. Thanks team
Step kids have bleeding disorders.more then a few times been to the hospital needing transfusions.almost every time doctors ignore their dad and do other treatments that never work.only do what dad has said will work after he makes a scene.and guess what.it works every time ️ DOCTORS NEED TO LEARN TO LISTEN TO THE PARENTS
I was advised the waiting time was 5 to 6 hours. It ended up being 12.5 hours waiting in a corridor because there was no rooms available. It was a caos, totally messy and sad to watch (it resemblances the poverty 3rd world country hospitals). I honestly felt sorry for the nurses and hospital workers, they were trying their best, but they were clearly overwhelmed. Lots of improvements are urgently needed in NZ Health System
Thank you to all of the staff in these trying times.
A Special thank you to those working at the COVID19 centres and at the vaccination centres.

Management.you need to do something yo help the emergency department staff. I've been sitting with my dad in the corridor of triage. Not once in that time has someone come up to check on him. He has had no obs done.
